European Jewish Culture Day

On the first Sunday in September there is the usual appointment with the European Day of Jewish Culture, which involves many people throughout Italy and in 28 European countries, desirous to get to know Jewish culture in all its aspects.

The day has an intriguing title: Jewish Heritage 2.0. From the Talmud to Internet.

The main theme Facing the Future is a bridge that the ancient Jewish culture can create to build a connection with the world to come, a world that can be faced with anxiety or with hope.
It is interesting to note that for the 2011 edition Siena has been selected as the city where the celebrations will begin. Events will also take place in 62 other locations in Italy.
The programme for Sunday 4th September is extremely rich of events in the Florentine locations tied to the Jewish tradition – the Synagogue, the Museum and the Monumental Cemetery. The day will start at 10 am with the opening greetings of the vice-president of the Jewish Community of Florence. These will be followed by multi-media meetings and 2.0 web and the installation video FACING THE FUTURE, which will run all day long in the garden of the Synagogue.
There will also be meetings with authors and at 6 pm the theatre show Il Padre è ... terno.
Among the events of the day there will be activities for kids, food tastings of Jewish specialities in Italian cooking, Hebrew music, and a bookshop.
Guided tours of the Synagogue, the Jewish Museum and the Monumental Cemetery in Viale Ariosto will be taking place throughout the day.
