In these pages you will find a list of suggestions, divided by type, to spend pleasant evenings in Florence and its province. Florence is a city that offers a fairly wide range of night life both in the centre of town and in the outskirts, suitable for all ages and interests. This is not a complete night venues and places of itnerest of clubs but an overview of some tips about the way to spend a good evening.
Remember that in Summer many clubs and bars are open again (Flò - a lounge bar with an open air space managed by the same Otel wich is closed in summer- Manduca, Scusa Mario, Meccanò, Central Park and Le Pavoniere, with pool), while other pubs with indoor spaces are ready for the season 2010. Offers range from commercial music Doris, Rooms Club, a private club for trendy people, Meccanò for teenagers, Costes, recommended if you love trendy fashion, Omi and Yab, in the heart of Florence, to electronic music (Viper and Central Park), to house music (Central Park or Tenax, alternative club recommended for unconventional people, and the Palace, the latest Florentine club offering house evenings.
If you want to get in touch with foreign tourists, we suggest you to try Twice Club and also Astor, a disco-pub with two floor livels where the crowd is mostly American, with a bar on the top floor and a commercial dance floor below, or the Space Electronic, historic commercial club in the centre of Florence and a meeting point for young people of all nationalities, together with Red Garter.
For those who prefer an alternative evening we recommend Flog, a concert hall where young people get together for concerts, live Italian rock and ethnic music, or the Strizzi Garden, a kiosk near the university campus at Novoli, that offers cheap drinks and cocktails and always full, with young crowd.
If you want to start off the evening with a drink in a trendy bar, we suggest Kitsch, one of the best known bars in Florence for pre-dinner drinks, suitable for all ages. Terrazza Martini is also a "must" for those who are planning on going to Otel, as it is right located under the Terrazza, well known for its elegance as well as for cocktails that are not too expensive. Among others, there are also Porfirio Rubirosa with its International cocktail, Zoe, Angels, Dolce Vita and Cafè de Paris, one of the most well known elegant bars in Florence for pre-dinner drinks near (Piazza Dalmazia) as well as Negroni and lastly Colle Bereto.
If you don't want to spend the night clubbing, you can go for a disco-pub like Oibò in Piazza Santa Croce, heart of the Florentine night scene and well known for its great drinks, or Slowly, Baraka, and Bella Blu in the area of Campo di Marte with a privee on the lower floor, Boston T, recently renewed in a real sophisticated style, Caffè la Torre, Trend Cafè, historic American bar in the stadium area perfect for a quiet night among friends, Plasma and Plaz.
For those who simply like to taste a good beer, we suggest Kikuya, William Pub, one of the most famous Florentine pubs in Piazza Santa Croce, with large choice of different beers, James Joyce, another of the more well known bars always full of young people at the weekends, Fauno, Australiano, Robin Hood, Green Store, typical Irish pub in the area of Campo di Marte, Bounty whose interior is made to look like a ship's cabin and prepares also pizza, Bombardier, Micheal Collins , JJ Cathedral, Braumeister, a German style pub both in design and in the wide range of beers, also works as a pizzeria and German restaurant, and Finnegan.
Older adults who want to have fun can meet in social clubs or recreation centres witch organize ballroom dancing, such as Beautiful dance (Circolo San Bartolo a Cintoia), Sala Conchiglia (Circolo Arci di Andreoni), El Pueblo (Casa del popolo di Calenzano), Settebello (circolo di Badia a Settimo), La Rosa (Casa del popolo di San Casciano), Adds Tomasiello (in Signa) and Casa del popolo di Grassina.
Florence also offers a choice of clubs for adults only, among which Strip Tease , Sexy Disco Excelsior, Showgirls and Rex; while gay clubs in Florence include Yag, very crowded during the weekend, Crisco Club, a cruising bar, Tabasco, the first homo club in Italy, open since 1974, the Piccolo Caffé pub, the Florence Baths sauna, the recently opened Fabrik with a garden and a dark room and the BK Bar (both located between Calenzano and Sesto Fiorentino
Flog concert hall organizes gay, lesbian and transgender parties, as well as Omi (usually every two Saturdays from 3rd October) and the Association Ireos organizes gay, lesbian and transgender evenings in Winter at the Viper on 30th October, 5th December and 25th December. Florence Queer Festival runs the festival internazionale di cinema ed arte (International Festival of Cinema and Art) with a gay, lesbian and transgender theme from 26th November to 2nd December and Queer Theater from 20th November to 5th December. Dance evenings for a gay audience are programmed at the recreative center casa del popolo dell' Antella every Saturday evening in Winter.
If you love ethnic cuisine, you can choose for a variety of restaurants, such as Salamanca (Spanish), the Tijuana (Mexican), the Kome (Japanese), Balaika (Greek), Cose Turche (Turkish), Hong Kong (Chinese) and the Ashoka (Indian).
If you love being out until late at night you can find bars and patisseries open until late, like the Chili Caffè, the Pasticceria Paoletti, the Bar Pasticceria ERG, (at the Florence-Pisa-Livorno motorway entrance) and the laboratorio dolciario "Re della Foresta".
Remember to drink with caution and not to drink alcohol or take drugs before driving. If you drive go slowly and be careful!!!
