Today, the crèche is made of statuettes and attempts, more or less successful, to recreate a scene from a particular time and place, and every church has its own.

In the Courtyard of the Dogana di Palazzo Vecchio, from December 8, is a crèche by an artist, made of luminescent materials, with the characters dressed in ancient costume.The characters in the famous paintings of the past are transformed into glittering silhouettes that animate the sacred scene; and the visitor's task is to recognize them! Open every day except the 9th and 25th of December.

The crèche in the Istituto Don Orione, in Via Capo di Mondo 36, entirely mechanical, is extensive and very well known: It is open from December 4 to January 29.

A very special Crèche for peace, a real installation with characters from our current history populating a crèche in Neapolitan style, is located in Via San Zanobi 58 and is open from  December 7 to  January 31, appointment by telephone at the number 3926373643.

In the piazza in front of the Duomo, in Florence, near the big Christmas tree, there will be a Christmas nativity scene with life-sized terracotta figures that come from nearby Impruneta, created by the artist craftsman Luigi Mariani.

At Santa Brigida, a town between Florence and Pontassieve, Christmas festivities involving the whole town are held again this year, with a major exhibition of nativity scenes from  December 24 to January 6.
