Florence is well-connected with the rest of Italy and with Europe, and is easy to get to by air or land. The city has a central position in Italy. By carThe A1 motorway, the main road artery linking the north and south of the country, runs past Florence, which has five exits: Firenze Nord, Firenze Ovest, Firenze Scandicci, Firenze Certosa and Firenze Sud. A third lane is currently being built on the Barberino-Incisa stretch of the A1. The A11 motorway and the Florence-Pisa-Livorno (FI-PI-LI) dual carriageway link the city with the west (Tyrrhenian) coast. By train Florence is also a key node on the Italian railway network. High-speed trains (Frecciarossa and Frecciargento) connect Florence with the most important Italian cities: Milan is under 2 hours away, Rome is one hour and a half, Bologna just 37 minutes away. In Florence there are three main train stations: Santa Maria Novella, Campo di Marte, Firenze Rifredi. By air Florence Airport (Amerigo Vespucci) is served by a great number of domestic and international flights each day.In the last few years there has been a significant increase in traffic in and out of Florence's city airport, and the infrastructure and facilities are constantly being upgraded.It's just 5 kilometres northwest of the city centre, which can be easily reached either by a shuttle bus or by taxi.
