Forte Belvedere has been reopened to the public on June 2 with the exhibition GONG, works by Eliseo Mattiacci.

gongThe famous panoramic Renaissance fortress, which for years has been a privileged venue for exhibitions by contemporary artists, is in itself a work of art. This is partly because of its breath-taking location in the centre of Florence, and the beautiful setting that surrounds it.  It is usually closed, but when summer comes and the exhibitions open, the fort and the surrounding gardens are open for tourists and Florentines alike to enjoy. In fact, the city's inhabitants are the ones who love this magic place and come back when it reopens.

The GONG exhibition causes Florence to confront itself again with its image as a contemporary city that , together with the artists, reflects on civic historyand artistic heritage, on the great cultural legacy from the past and on current society, on science and spirituality and above all on poiesis and techne.

Eliseo Mattiacci, is one of the great masters of our time, the creator of sculptural forms and graphic shapes that have the power to combine materialism with metaphysical dream. Mattiacci is considered one of the pioneers of the late Sixities' Italian Avant Garde, Mattiacci is the originator of experimentation and renovation in sculpture, the inventor of a cosmological iconography.

In synergy with the exhibit at Forte Belvedere the Museo Novecento hosts some works by Mattiacci on display in the rooms of the second floor of the museum.

GONG in Florence from June 2 to October 14, closed on Mondays open from 11am to 8 pm full price 3 euros
