By displaying documents and works from a variety of funds and collections, this exhibition presents aspects of Zannetti’s personal and professional life, mixed with the charismatic personality of Giuseppe Garibaldi. One of the main loans is from the Rubieri-Zannetti fund, bought by the Biblioteca Moreniana, with a display of original documents and letters written by Zannetti. There are also some paintings portraying Garibaldi in various situations, mostly on loan from the Modern Art Gallery in Pitti Palace. Legacies of a myriad of institutions preserving the – fairly recent – past of the Italian nation.

Born in Monte San Savino (near Arezzo), Zannetti was inspired by patriotic ideals. Specialized in surgery, Zannetti, who had fought in the wars of independence, offered his professional services to Garibaldi’s troops. He was even nominated a senator.
