The entrance of Tuscany into the Kingdom of Italy was decided thanks to a plebiscite, and the events related to this popular vote constitute part of the exhibition. Another interesting section is dedicated to the Tuscan aristocracy, with documents showing the dominant class’s interest – at times purely out of selfish motives – in the adhesion to the pro-unification beliefs. The exhibition analyzes the Risorgimento as a mass phenomenon, involving many young people and also women, who did not have the right to vote but were nonetheless active in the campaigns, even those of Garibaldi. Together with the exhibition, there will be a series of meetings open to everyone on the topics of the Risorgimento and citizenship. These meetings will take place on Friday afternoons at 4 at the State Archives (Archivio di Stato).
Opening hours: Monday-Friday 9.00 am – 1.00 pm and 2.00 - 6.00 pm. Saturday 9.00 am – 1.00 pm. Closed on Sundays and public holidays. |
