| Macchiaioli painters at Villa Bardini, Florence |
|
It was one of the artistic movements that gave the greatest contribution to innovating the figurative language between the nineteenth and the twentieth century. The various sections of the exhibition explore the development of the “revolution” introduced by the painting of “macchie” (literally, patches of colour), starting with early experimental works, up to the full affirmation of the “patch”, and then right up to the dawn of the twentieth century, when the example of the Masters became an inescapable model for the elaboration of new figurative languages for young Tuscan artists. All the paintings come from a single, very precious collection of an enthusiastic manager from Lombardy. This lover of Tuscany, who prefers to remain anonymous, in a quarter of a century of ‘forays’ in art galleries throughout Italy has collected approximately one hundred paintings from this extraordinary period of art. The ticket to the exhibition allows entrance to the Pietro Annigoni Museum and the Capucci Museum, both inside Villa Bardini. From 24th June to 27th November Villa Bardini, Costa San Giorgio 2 |
