 There will be forty photographs on display, chosen among over a million taken by the Korean photographer Ahae during the past two years. These photos were taken from the window of his studio in South Korea, thus giving birth to the project Through My Window.The photographs portray landscapes and nature through time: a journey through the changing seasons, from the early lights of dawn to the shadows of twilight, in harmony with the cycles of the sun and the moon. Ahae, an active and keen environmentalist, has succeeded in capturing the passing of time and the changes in the natural world surrounding him, but he is also conveying a strong message about the responsibility we need to take for the planet we live on and its preservation. Each of Ahae’s photographs is an experience: the open window exposes him to the weather, he rarely uses a tripod, even with the bulkiest cameras and longest lenses, and never uses artificial lighting. The result is an “organic” image of the mutating natural scenery outside his window: photographs offering direct and real views, enhanced by natural lighting. Even the elaboration of the photographs is coherent with the environmental philosophy of Ahae, and is therefore “organic”: the photographs do not undergo manipulations such as touch-ups, colour alterations, or the combination of several images. Only a light cleansing of the images is allowed before printing the final works (alignment, removal of stains, a minimal correction of contrast and luminosity).
