Interested in discovering the oldest tradition of ice-cream making, ceramics and leather manufactury? Visit some of the historic shops in the heart of Florence, where you can try traditional food and buy high quality products!

Monuments and museums say a lot about the history of the city of Florence and its glorious past in the Renaissance, but not much about the history of its manufactury and culinary tradition. Another way to discover the more recent past of the city is to visit one of the Florentine historic shops, located all around the city.
There are about 60 historic shops that are member of the Association of Historic, Traditional and Typical Shops, founded in 2013. The Association aims at promoting high quality stores and restaurants that produce goods according to original recipes and standards. From restaurants to leather shops, from handicrafts and clothing, you can plan your own shopping in one of the most authentic places in town. There are several itineraries you can follow to discover the city in an alternative way.
You can start from one of the historic coffee shops in Piazza della Repubblica, walk along Via dei Calzaioli and arrive in the stunning Piazza della Signoria. Or, from the beautiful Via Tornabuoni reach Via della Condotta passing by Piazza Duomo. Another itinerary starts in Via dei Servi and ends in the lively Piazza San Lorenzo. The tour around the Santa Maria Novella area starts in one of the oldest street, Via della Scala, and ends in Piazza San Pancrazio. To buy ceramics and many others, choose the itinerary around the impressive Piazza Santa Croce. If you don't want to miss the historic shops on the other side of the river, start your tour crossing the Ponte Vecchio and visit the Santo Spirito area.
If you are interested in more details about these itineraries, please visit the website of the Municipality of Florence.
For a complete list of the Florentine historic shops, please have a look at the Association website.
If you want to see where the historic shops are, search them on the map.
