The following is a whistle-stop tour of the shops most likely to interest kids… from toys to books.

The windows of toy shops are a real eye-catcher for visitors to the city. The following are just two of Florence’s most interesting toyshops:
Dreoni – entrances in Via Cavour and Via Ginori. A children’s paradise and something of an institution in Florence, selling everything from soft toys to model kits, dolls and building blocks.
Città del sole – Via dei Cimatori 21r. Sells intelligent and sometimes rather unusual toys designed to stimulate children’s creativity.
100% Birbe is an original shop with old-fashioned toys made for creative children. You wont' find plastic but paper, fabrics, light and wood. Borgognissanti 2R.
Fate più balocchi - is a very nice shop for creative toys made of wood, fabrics and paper. It is not far from Porta Romana. It is in viale Petrarca 46R.
In the area of piazza Leopoldo a new, interesting toys shop has just opened: Parpignol is in via Tavanti 8e.
When it comes to books, every large city-centre bookshop has a special children’s section. Other bookshops also organize open meetings, workshops and various other events to get children interested in books, theatre and the art of storytelling.
Libri Liberi – Via San Gallo 21. The whole back room is devoted to children’s books and toys, and there is also a garden with a theatre for shows and workshops.
Not central but not far from the city centre is the bookshop CUCCUMEO with special editions of chidren books and creative toys. Via Enrico Myer 11-13 R.

Both Feltrinelli regular - via dei Cerretani and  the new one inside SMN train station. Wide range of foreign language books for young tourists.
There is also a good selection of children’s books at the IBS bookstore (Via de' Cerretani 16R).
